Day 2: Something called exercise

Ok, so as a student bum, I've been accustomed to doing the absolute minimum of exercise, walking into uni was usually enough exercise for the day for me (despite living only 5 minutes walk away!!!). Coming to the country with the highest number of obese people in the world, I was hoping that this stance wouldn't change... So what did I volunteer to do today... take part in my cousin James' soccer (or in the queens English.... Football) practise. But I'll come to that in a minute.

Having landed in the States yesterday, I was given the luxury of a lie in. So what time did I stir... 7am, ok ok so it's 12pm UK time, but having gone to bed at the usual time EST I at least wanted to wake up at a decent time, like 9am... so I turned over after looking at the clock on my ipod, muttering curses at stirring at such an obscene time in the morning and dozed for the next three hours.
By the time I'd woken up, showered and gotten dressed, it was around 1030am, a fairly respectable time, showing me that jet lag hadn't set in! Good times methinks!!!! So I went upstairs, and wrote my blog for yesterday, thinking back through the haze of memory to what I actually did. Yeah it took me about 2 hours to write it, but during that time I did what I do best, procrastinate, talking to mum on facebook, and giving my sister a guided tour of the house via msn, having messed about with my webcam for about a million hours trying to get a crazy alien off screen, instead of me!! I must've managed to time it perfectly though, as I'd literally just pressed publish post, when Auntie Lizzie walked through the door from work at around 1pm.

At around 1330pm, we went for a drive to the shops, looking for somewhere where we could buy England soccer/football shirts, but the shop we wanted was no longer there, what a bummer!!! You come 3500 miles to get an England soccer/football shirt and the Americans don't sell them, I mean, who does that, it's not like we're playing the USA any time soon really is it!!!! Having been unsuccessful in our hunt, we went to costco, which is basically this giant wholesalers which do hot dogs and bottomless drinks for $1.50... talk about value for money =). Thinking it was time to go (which in all fairness it was!!) we went to pick Hannah up from school before returning home, where I played a bit with my new camera lens... and realised just how much Hannah is like my sister... she must have learned this trick from Komi at some point!!! (yes that is a whole apricot!!)
When James got in from school, we went downstairs, and I bummed about on the laptop whilst he demonstrated great calm and precision in destroying buildings on Bad Company 2... before getting blown to smithereens himself by a tank... an eye for an eye and all!! Come around 5pm we got ready for soccer practice, myself bearing in mind that I've not really played soccer for about 21 years... apparently, in my shorts I looked like a character from a TV Sketch Show featuring Matt Lucas and David Walliams... that's right, I looked like Andy, the guy in the wheelchair from Little Britain :P.
The training wouldn't have been that hard, had it not been so hot (well it was for me, apparently it was relatively cool compared to what it could have been!!). Therefore, on the warm up run I decided to be the back marker, making sure no-one collapsed in a heap due to heat exhaustion!! I then spectated as they practised their penalties... It was like watching the England team or West Ham taking penalties, just with kids doing it instead of players earning a million pounds a minute!!!
Then comes the game. I was put on a team with James, and as such knew that our team would be the best, what with me being dubbed the next Wayne Rooney, and James being the next David Beckham... I made a few good runs, only to find I couldn't stop in my converse trainers, which ended up with a big break in the soles... ooooooooooops!!! Put in a few good balls, and had I have been playing rugby would've scored a goal (albeit of the drop variety) after missing the goal by a good 3 foot over the crossbar.
Ok, so my team lost, but the score didn't reflect the game, but in my eyes, it was good that the team with most USA players on beat the team with the Brits and French in, means that we've got more to play for this weekend, I may have to tell Mr Capello that now, it's a matter of honour!!!!!
After returning home, and telling Hannah, quite correctly, that the parmesan cheese she'd just put on her dinner smelt worse than my shoes (I wish I had caught her reaction on camera, it was funny!!!), I showered and got dressed again ready for dinner, a gorgeous spag bol. to fill me up... after seconds (which made firsts look small) I retired thus to write my blog.

What does tomorrow hold... well if Hannah today was anything to go by, it's gonna be loud and it's gonna be hyper!!! Yes, it's Hannah's 11th Birthday... a fact that we've not been told once today, it's like she's forgotten or something!!! Got to be up by the ungodly hour of 0630!!
I'll let you know how that goes tomorrow. Until then, byeeeeeeee x
